Christmas Greetings from BCUIM

As Christmas approaches, some of our chaplains will be involved with carol services and other events, as workplaces acknowledge the meaning of the season. It’s worth thinking for a moment of some of the deep truths expressed in carols and sung joyfully in many different settings. “Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see. Hail the incarnate deity.” “Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.” Those words have become familiar and easily pass us by.

One of the tasks of a chaplain, indeed any Christian, is to help people stop for a while, to pause and to recognise God in the familiar. The kindness one colleague at work might show to another, words of encouragement, the listening ear in time of need, accomplishing a project or making something well: all these can be pointers to a deeper reality, that God is present amongst us in the daily interactions of life and work. The “incarnate deity” became part of our world, and he remains involved.

On behalf of the BCUIM Team and Board, may I wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year, hoping that you will have the chance to pause and glimpse the presence of God wherever you are, or wherever you work.
